Common Dental Traumas and How We Handle Them
Crooked Tooth from Impact
When a tooth is knocked out of alignment but not completely dislodged, we assess the severity of the situation to determine the best course of action. Factors like the direction of the tooth, the extent of gum or bone damage, and whether it’s a baby or permanent tooth all influence the treatment plan. If you notice a tooth has been knocked crooked, contact us immediately so we can evaluate and potentially save the tooth. Acting quickly increases the chances of a successful outcome.
Broken Tooth
If your child breaks a tooth, locating the fragment can make a difference. Place the tooth fragment in a Ziploc bag with clean water or saliva and bring it to your appointment. If the fragment is usable, we may be able to repair the tooth using it. If not, we can rebuild the tooth using resin composite material, carefully matching the color of your child’s teeth for a seamless look. A broken tooth needs to be treated promptly to prevent infection and ensure a smooth restoration process.
Knocked-Out Tooth
Unlike metal fillings, which contain mercury, composite fillings are made from a safe, mercury-free material. They’re an ideal choice for children of all ages, offering peace of mind for parents.
